Our beautiful Island is nestled between Tacoma and Seattle and is a true reflection of the Northwest Pacific’s natural beauty, with a diverse community to match. Fondly mentioned as “the heart of the sound” by the locals, Vashon is a peaceful, slow-paced getaway location.
The holiday season is coming to a close, and Vashon Island welcomed its visitors with numerous events from November through to the end of the year. John L Scott Vashon sponsored a toy drive. Residents gave toys, cash, and gifts to help kids on the Island. The theater had a great movie line-up, ranging from action thrillers to children’s movies.
People interested in making holiday wreaths attended a wreath-making workshop. Game lovers had several game nights at the Dig Deep Gardens. The center for arts hosted its holiday tradition performance, the nutcracker. It also hosted its 16th Miniature Show for pieces less than 36″ wide. Eighty artists from different cities showcased their hand-crafted original 2D miniature pieces. The Social Music Club had excellent jam sessions for all ages. The music community gathered to sing, play and listen to all genres, instruments, and skill levels for free. Another music event was the family-friendly annual community sing-along. It hosted all ages to enjoy a night of festive fun & holiday music.
Winterfest
This year’s gratitude parade happened at the Grinch’s Gratitude Market. There was a firepit to keep yourself warm and a hot cocoa bar. Children participated in the Grinch’s Scavenger Hunt, where they tried to find the Grinch’s hidden Christmas items. It was a perfect activity for the holidays.
The Winterfest Parade and Tree Lighting happened on 3rd December. The event began with a Santa Cottage Story Hour by Santa and his elves, followed by an Uptown Pre-parade Fun. Local businesses offered festive treats and many kids’ activities. The Lighted Tractor parade began at six pm, where groups, floats, and lighted tractors followed Santa through the village. They sang, lit a Christmas tree, and had terrific performances.
Winter Solstice
The annual winter solstice was held at the Dig Deep Garden. The community solstice ritual took participants through a lighted walking trail. People experienced a night of tradition, belonging, singing, forgiveness and community.
New Year’s Eve with Marchfourth
The Vashon Center for the Arts will host a New Year’s Eve Extravaganza featuring Marchfourth. End your year in style with the all-night snack spread, good music, and Ruby Brink cocktails. After impressive performances, the infamous New Year countdown will be ushering in 2023. Another New Year’s Eve event is at The Open Space for Arts & Community. At the ReNEWal Year’s Eve event, attendees will dance the night away with music from local DJs and bands. They will also experience hourly confetti drops till midnight.
