Vashon Zip Codes

Zip Code History

For many years the United States Postal Service id not use zip codes. An address on Vashon was a simple house number with street city and state written on the envelope or package to be delivered. In July of 1963 the USPS issued a nationwide 5 digit zip code number system to append to the typical address. As a result, the entire Vashon and Maury Island was set to 98070 with the main post office just in town. The South end’s Burton Post Office was established with the zip code 98013. You can still find that some residents use this 98013 zip code with their PO Boxes and using the convenience of the Burton Post Office to send mail.
