If you read last year’s post on Zamorana, you already know we’re big fans of this tucked-away taco truck turned local institution. But much like the second helping of carnitas you promised yourself you wouldn’t get… here we are again. Consider this the encore to our original standing ovation. Only this time, we’re going back for more guac.
Zamorana isn’t just serving food. They’re serving loyalty. This family-run gem off the highway near Vashon town is a no-frills, flavor-filled fiesta that has managed to capture the hearts (and stomachs) of the island in a way few places can. If you’re after bland, safe food, this is not the place to stop. But if you want tacos that taste like someone’s abuela is secretly in the back blessing every tortilla, then welcome home.
Let’s get one thing straight. You haven’t really lived on Vashon until you’ve eaten a plate of Zamorana’s carne asada while sitting in your car, balanced on your lap, dangerously saucy, and absolutely worth every napkin emergency.
Their menu hits all the favorites: enchiladas that sing, burritos you need two hands for, and tamales that have been described by one Yelp user as “life-changing.” Another review described Zamorana as “everything you want in a taco truck and then some,” which is exactly right. From sizzling street tacos to chile rellenos that somehow manages to be both light and rich, the flavors don’t just show up… they take over.
One of the most charming things about Zamorana is that it’s still deeply, unmistakably run by family. The kind of place where you’re not a customer so much as a guest at the table. The service? Always fast, always friendly, and always with a smile that says, “We got you.”
And yes, the portions are as generous as the owners. You might not always be able to finish your meal, but you’ll think about it later like an old friend you forgot to call. Especially if you didn’t save room for one of their house-made salsas, which range from a friendly simmer to “text your ex just for chaos” level heat.
During the summer, Zamorana is ideal picnic food. Grab a combo plate, roll down your car windows, head to Jensen Point, and enjoy the real taste of Vashon with a side of waterfront breeze. Or just post up in the gravel lot like the regulars do and call it good.
From the first bite to the final tortilla chip, there’s something undeniably warm and welcoming about Zamorana. It’s more than food. It’s family. It’s flavor. And honestly, it’s a little addictive.
