Vashon Island Farmer’s Market

The Vashon Island Farmer’s Market, organized by the Vashon Island Growers Association (VIGA), takes place at the Village Green every Saturday from April through October. VIGA, a non-profit organization established in the 1980s, is committed to supporting local agriculture through education and community involvement. Initially started as a small market near the current Post Office, the Farmer’s Market has grown significantly and is now a vibrant hub located at the Village Green, thanks to community efforts that raised over $200,000 to secure this permanent spot.
The association plays a pivotal role in nurturing Vashon’s agricultural scene. Not only does it manage the Farmer’s Market, but it also runs several programs aimed at increasing local food production and education. These include the Get Growing series that encourages residents to cultivate more food at home and community-based initiatives like the Food Preservation Initiative, which focuses on storing and sharing local produce year-round.
VIGA also emphasizes community engagement and sustainability. It has fostered partnerships across the island, involving various stakeholders from the equestrian and mountain biking communities to environmental groups, ensuring the conservation and ecological enhancement of the area.
