DESCRIPTION:Ignited by Vashon : Art by Vashon Artist Residency Alumni\nVCA partnered with Vashon Artist Residency (VAR) for this milestone event showcasing a diverse collection of work that reflects the influence of the island on an artist’s practice.\nCathy Sarkowsky  founded VAR in 2021 as a place where artists could focus on their work\, find inspiration\, and connect with others in the serene setting of Vashon Island.\nIn just four years\, VAR has grown into a respected program that attracts artists from across the U.S. and abroad. This September\, that journey comes full circle as Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA) hosts Ignited by Vashon\, the first-ever alumni exhibition for the residency. The show will celebrate the work and stories shaped by time on the island.\nThe exhibition features 31 alumni artists presenting more than 40 works in a wide range of media — photography\, fiber sculpture\, quilting\, painting\, mixed media\, and watercolor. Some pieces draw directly from the island’s landscapes\, colors\, and textures. Others capture the solitude\, focus\, and camaraderie that residency life can bring.\nFor Vashon residents\, the show offers a chance to see their home through the fresh perspective of visiting artists. For visitors\, it’s an opportunity to experience how this small island can have an outsized impact on creativity.

He was the lead singer of Grammy-nominated\, multi-platinum rock band The Fray. He serves as a board chair on a music education initiative with Colorado Governor Jared Polis\, aiming to provide universal music access for every K-12 student in Colorado. He also works with several organizations in the fight to end human trafficking. DESCRIPTION:Advanced Lyrical**\nTuesdays: Sep 9-Jan 20 (skip Nov 11\, Dec 2\, Dec 16-Jan 6) | 5:15-6:45 pm\nTuition: $495* \nOriginal Works Performances: Mar 13 & 14 at 7:00pm and Mar 14 at 2:00pm\nInstructor: Madeline Morser \nLocation: Upstairs Studio \nHone your fluidity\, expression\, and grace in Advanced Lyrical! Lyrical dance is most often defined as a combination of ballet and jazz techniques\, with emphasis on graceful\, fluid motions that often mirror the lyrics or theme of the music. Class will start with a center warm up including both standing exercises and workshops for jumps\, turns\, and falls to be used in phrase-work. We will use the second half of class for traveling progressions and longer phrases/group dances. This class is for advanced-level dancers.
